Age spots and sun spots are also known as pigmented lesions, liver spots or solar lentigines. They are blemishes on the skin associated with ageing and exposure to ultra-violet radiation from the sun. They are also perceived by many to give away a person’s age.
Age and sunspots are very common and can start showing up at any age, on any type of skin. Largely a result of enjoyment of the sun, they are caused by excess production of melanin in the skin by cells called melanocytes.
Beach Grove Laser’s leading technology can quickly and easily address your spots in as little as one or two treatments. Our proven laser correction technology has been used with great success to remove brown spots, whereby the light energy is selectively absorbed by the pigmented areas, sparing the normal surrounding skin.

How does age spot laser removal work?
A beam of laser light targets the darkened (or pigmented) spot, and is absorbed by the spot’s melanin – a process called photothermolysis. Short pulses of the light essentially break up the spot.
Will my spots return after treatment?
It is very unusual for spots to return after treatment. However, new spots may appear over time, which can also be easily removed. Your best preventative measure is to avoid the sun and/or use sunscreen on a regular basis.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of rubber band snaps to the skin. The majority of patients tolerate this sensation without requiring anesthetics. Within about 30 seconds of treatment, the area may become pink or red, and this may last from a few hours to one day.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically only one or two treatments are required. Some patients with larger spots or darker skin may require additional treatments to obtain best results.
What can expect after my treatment?
Usually within approximately 20 minutes you will see a slightly darker color of the area treated. It can take from a couple days to a few weeks for the discoloration to “slough off”. You may feel like a slight heat sensation to the area following the treatment. If you cannot avoid sun exposure for the weeks following treatment, then a sunscreen of no less than 30 SPF should be used.
